Why I haven't joined a guild
Since I've been playing I've had a 16 N/Me, 20 W/Mo, 13 Mo/N that I've spent time playing. In every case whenever I'm in town and without fail I get an invitation to a guild by people I don't even know. I fail to see the point in joining a guild where I do not know one person and that will just invite openly. In my experience open invites tend to lead to disasters especially seeing you get such a broad range of players (not even considering PvP PvE aspects). I'd prefer to play with people who have some level of intelligence and integrity that do not act like immature 12 year olds all the time. I know there have several posts about guilds and I saw one saying well maybe if they don't get 10 members in a week they should automatically remove the guild. This idea is okay and would help get rid of low member guilds. I have a good friend who joined a guild and now he's the only one in it and he didn't start it because the other people left or don't play anymore. I'd like to start my own guild or join one, but my problem that exists is there are too many lame guilds giving free invites to joe blows just to try and claim how they have over 50-100 participating members. Whoop-di-do-da!!!! And this helps how? As it rests now I do not plan on joining a guild unless I actually start seeing the more players repetitively or I make my own and start inviting people I think might be worthwhile. I have to say just because you have a guildhall and 100 members, to me, it doesn't mean a D*** thing. Talk about going from trade spam to guildspam. Yikes.

There are many many guilds out there that do not advertise and that have long trial periods before invites are offered.Thereare some that only allow older players and that have a structured abuse policy. Ours for example frowns on selling between guild memebers its either a gift or nothing. Many just focus on PvE only. There is hundreds of guilds that are under the broadcasting billboard guilds you come in contact with spamming members.

I agree with most of the post. I don't think random invitations work out well and I've never excepted any of them either.
What I don't agree with is the low member guild removal. Some people would like to have a small guild and it wouldn't be fair to those people. Also, it would be a motivator to create this guildspam that you speak of. |

I think one of the big reasons for a guild is to meet other players and make bonds in game. So yes i recruit strangers hoping to make friends. If it doesn't work out then they leave the guild no harm no foul.
I also like small guilds mine is and is just fine that way |

I can't say I really recruit random strangers, but my guild is always open to drawing in more people. Sometimes you just have to give a guild a chance, you won't know how personalities will react you never ty out any of the various guilds.

My guild only recruits members that at least one existing member can vouch for in full confidence. If you vouch for someone who ends up being an unhelpful, inactive moron, both of you are out. The obvious result of this is that our guild is very small, but we're friendly and helpful with one another. I tried a couple of guilds before I really felt comfortable, and I went with one with an officer I'd spent a lot of time with (even before he was in the guild). Good luck in your search.

You just haven't met the right guild yet. People have been added to my small guild slowly because of their merits as team players and good all around people. However the circumstances of their joining have been varied.
One member of my guild was added after lengthy periods of group play. He was in another guild at the Time but after a while it seemed pretty obvious that we would all be better off if he joined us. Another member signed up after a five minute exchange about the history of my guild's namesake after he whispered "nice cape." So far all members of my guild (long Time friends and new members) get along well and we have fun playing together when we can. Bottom line is you never know how things may work out, so keep an open mind. |

I would be against a guild limit/restrictions to creating them myself. There are other games that do that already.
Although, if they had some kind of option for non-Guild people to make themselves a nifty cape as a fashion statement, I might partially withdraw that objection. However, a friend has a Guild, and because it's based on a very small forum community, it's numbers are small. Maybe it'll get bigger, but if you were to limit it to 10 he could never have made it or it would've been deleted etc. I do agree, however, that perhaps a feature that disbands inactive guilds might be useful. Perhaps...no activity by any Guild member over 2-3 months = Guild go poof? (maybe they already have something like that in place, not sure...) As to all the non-solicited spam-invites one can get - eh...they don't bother me. I just ignore them and reject at my leisure. |

In order for our guild to invite you you have to play in Tombs with us on several occasions. Or just once if we're really impressed.

I think that the GW community needs much more time to grow and mature before they start putting more restictions on guilds. At this point I would think it's safe to say that poorly run guilds will shut them selves down, and the small guilds will either grow, merge, or die.
Keep in mind that people form guilds for many different reasons. It will take time see which were formed for good reasons and which were formed for bad. Lazarus |

There are many guilds, some just for helping each other around, others for high level pvp. Before joining a guild it would be wise to get some information first. I did not join until now because joining is definite. And I would like to try out first. Just like some guilds would like to test the skills of candidate members first. Thats just fair. I think if it wasn't to prevent spying, it would be far better to allow people to join and leave guilds whenever they like. Maybe it should be possible to leave with a penalty of not joining a new guild for a month or so?

Our little Guild is kinda whimpy. My daughter was the second to join, then after a while the leader quit and gave it to her. She added me, made me an officer. My daughter is young, so her "leadership abilities" are limited. I try to help her out, but then again I am DAD. Dads seem to be BOSSY to teenagers. So I walk on egg shells with her. I have chatted with a few of the other guild members and I have one decent relationship with one powerful gal in it, but you are right you need to KNOW who you are dealing with. I have thought of joining another guild just to get more involved however, I like to be able to keep tabs on my daughter. Make sure she is SAFE from CREEPS. I wish I had more time to play. Just not in the cards. My wife is real sick of this game already,however, she likes that fact that Dad & Daughter are doing something together. So she will put up with it. It would be cool to get a Hall down the road, but I will not pay over 25K for it. I can see the possiblities of having a Guild Hall when more updates come out. Like it becoming a mini town w/ training areas and such.
EDIT: Another thing I do like about our Guild is the Capes we have. We have gotten more praise for our cape design then our playing skills. At least we look cool . Last edited by Old Dood; May 31, 2005 at 11:03 PM // 23:03.. |

I don't understand why Guilds will randomly invite... do they think that a larger number of people will make it a better guild?
My boyfriend and I started a guild, and so far we've only invited friends and one person who seemed very nice and a good player. (He did very well during a Fissure run.) We have barely anyone in our guild, but that's just fine with me. I'd rather have a few members who are nice and skilled at the game than a hoarde of morons. (Not to say that people not in our guild are morons!) We invited another person the other day who we met during the second to last mission, unfortunately he wanted to remain guildless. |

to me, guild members that spam out "we have capes and a guild hall!" mean that they apparently just told you the only positive things about their guild.
with ours, i don't think we've asked a single person we've met on GW to join our guild. usually they will be partied with some of us and will ask if we have any openings. |

I apoligize in advance for my advertising in towns. I promise that I only say it once whenever I'm in a district. My problem is that whenever I do get good people in groups ether leave before I can ask, or never respond. So I'm kinda forced into asking in town. I've never said anything about capes or halls when I adverstise. There seems to be alot of fashion obessed people in GW

One man guilds are pathedic and egotistical, especially when the tag is your name abbreviated. I on the otherhand run a two man guild. We focus on being gentlemen while we hunt for guild virgins which are just about as hard to find in guild wars as they are in real life.
